The Story of QatanI

·         In the days before the peace accord between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets is where QatanI's story begins.

·         Once, during those years, a Vulcan Science vessel strayed too close to the Empire and was attacked by the IKV Hegh qaD, a Klingon bird of prey (toQDuj) renowned for it victory record.  The Vulcan ship was forced to crash land on a small planetoid.  There was only one survivor, a young, attractive Vulcan female.  K'taygor, second in command of the IKV Hegh qaD found her desirable and took her for his mate.  It was not unusual for Klingon Warriors to enslave their enemies in the days before peace came to this part of the galaxy. K'taygor's Captain (HoD) disapproved, but since he was the fiercest warrior in the fleet, he permitted it.

·         The female was Sulacomantani - a difficult Vulcan name to pronounce. K'taygor took her and soon, she was with child. Knowing she was more fragile than a Klingon female, K'taygor sent her to stay at a Klingon outpost to have the child. There were many captives of many conquered races being held at the outpost. It was at that same time when the IKV Hegh qaD was sent to intercept the USS Enterprise which was enroute to the outpost to free the hostages.  K'taygor was looking forward to killing the renegade Kirk.

·         The two ships met and the battle was glorious! But the IKV Hegh qaD was defeated and the USS Enterprise escaped and continued to the outpost to free the hostages. Sulacomantani was returned to Vulcan.  The IKV Hegh qaD managed to make it to QI'tomer just one day before the terrible and famous slaughter.  K'taygor was killed at QI'tomer, he died with honor.

·         It was on Vulcan that Sulacomantani gave birth to a son . . . a Klingon son. It was in honor of the father, as was the Vulcan tradition, that he was given a Klingon name . . . QatanI, after the "K" sound in the father's name and the "tani" sound from the mother's.

·         QatanI looked Klingon, the only Vulcan traits were his pointed ears and straight teeth. He was able to hide his ears beneath his hair. He teeth, to him, they were of little importance.

·         Growing up on Vulcan was not easy for QatanI. The other children teased him terribly - Vulcan's aren't born logical, you know, they're raised that way. Sulacomantani had hoped he would adapt to the ways of her people. She failed one step in her logic . . . She forgot that long ago on Vulcan, they were a savage race that almost destroyed themselves. It was their turning to logic and shutting off all emotions that saved them from themselves. It was this ancient part of Vulcan that mixed with his Klingon blood that fired QatanI's desire to seek out other Klingons and become a Klingon warrior (SuvwI', vaj).

·         When he was in his teenage years, the Federation and the Klingon Empire formed the peace accord. It was during a visit by a Klingon freighter to Vulcan, that QatanI stowed away on the shuttlecraft and left Vulcan aboard that freighter.  There he remained hidden and undetected all the way to Kronos (Qo'noS).

·         While on Qo'noS, QatanI learned he was a member of the honored family of DevnoH and he learned of the honorable death of his father and based on that honor became the first logical Klingon warrior in the Empire. To quote QatanI: "If you offend my honor, then it is only logical that it is a good day to die . . . for YOU!"
